Governor Andrew Cuomo will get pro bono help from the New York office of Zuckerman Spaeder in the battle over the creation of a new state Senate district in New York.

Last month Cuomo and Senate Republicans agreed to revamp New York’s legislative redistricting system every 10 years beginning in 2022. The proposal calls for the creation of a 63rd Senate district, something the Senate’s Republican majority supports. State Democrats, however, oppose the new district’s creation, and sued Cuomo and Republican leaders on March 15 in a bid to block the proposal. Cohen v. New York State Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research for Reapportionment (LATFOR), 12-102185. The case is before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Richard Braun.
