Magic Circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer secured the lead role advising Heineken International B.V. on its £412 million ($646 million) acquisition of the Galaxy Pub Estate from the Royal Bank of Scotland, which was represented in the transaction by U.K. firm CMS Cameron McKenna.

The deal, which was announced Friday, will see the Dutch brewer purchase 918 pubs on a cash-and-debt-free basis, increasing Heineken’s portfolio of drinking outlets by almost 200 percent and establishing it as one of the U.K.’s largest pub owners. The bars, which include a Mayfair establishment owned by Madonna’s former husband Guy Ritchie, are already managed on behalf of RBS by Heineken subsidiary Scottish & Newcastle.
