Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has hired an energy and natural resources head for its China practice and partnership.

Gang Yuan is a former local partner in the Beijing office of the now–defunct Dewey & LeBoeuf. He specializes in energy and resources-related corporate transactions and regulatory advice, and has extensive experience in advising Chinese state-owned enterprises on their cross-border transactions.

Gang joined the Beijing office of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Green & MacRae as associate in 2005, two years before the firm merged with Dewey Ballantine. He was made a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf in 2009. Prior to joining LeBoeuf Lamb, Gang was an associate at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Beijing.

Gang is the last of Dewey’s Beijing partners to find a new home. Over the past few months, the firm’s other three Beijing-based partners–Dirk Walker, Ingrid Zhu-Clark, and Lan Tao–left to join King & Wood Mallesons; Morgan, Lewis & Bockius; and White & Case, respectively.
