Mayer Brown JSM has hired a new partner for its corporate and securities practice in Hong Kong. James Fong joins his new home from Hogan Lovells, where he was a Hong Kong-based partner.
Fong specializes in corporate finance and securities transactions. He is experienced in advising issuers and underwriters on Hong Kong initial public offerings and was part of the Lovells team advising UBS AG, Macquarie Group Ltd., and JPMorgan Chase & Co. as underwriters to the $770 million IPO of BBMG Corp in Hong Kong in 2009. Fong also acts on rights issues, private equity, and joint venture deals.
Fong started his legal career in 1998 at Johnson Stokes & Master, the Hong Kong-based predecessor firm to Mayer Brown JSM, but left the firm for Lovells four years before Johnson Stokes merged with U.S.-based Mayer Brown in 2008.* Fong joined the corporate group of Lovells’s Hong Kong office as an associate and was later promoted to consultant in 2008. He made partner when Lovells merged with Hogan & Hartson in 2010.
With Fong onboard, Mayer Brown JSM has 61 partners in its Hong Kong office. Earlier this month, the firm also hired two partners for its Beijing practice–Henry Wang, who joined from Dechert, where he was partner, and Billy Au, who came from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was Hong Kong-based counsel.
