By the end of the year, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman will complete the 20-month-long process of moving its back office operations from San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York to Nashville. The firm’s IT, human resources, billing, and other administrative jobs will be under the same roofa substantially cheaper roof.
Pillsbury is the latest Am Law 100 firm to move much of its nonlawyer staff to a less expensive location. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe pioneered the movement in 2002 when it sent its back office operations to Wheeling, West Virginia. And two years ago, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr opened a business services center staffed by about 180 employees outside Dayton.
