Intellectual property lawyer DENISE MCKENZIE has lateraled from Kirkland & Ellis to Arnold & Porter, where she joins as counsel based in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. McKenzie litigates IP and patent infringement cases involving computer architecture, semiconductor technology, computer software and hardware, and Internet technology.
EMILY STUDEBAKER has jumped from Garvey Schubert Barer to Davis Wright Tremaine’s Seattle office. Joining as a partner, Studebaker counsels heath care clients on regulatory compliance and transactional matters.
GARY JUNGELS has left Mayer Brown to be a partner at Freeborn & Peters in Chicago. He concentrates on private equity and venture capital matters such as fund formations and joint ventures.
The former assistant director of the real estate group in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s division of corporate finance, MICHAEL MCTIERNAN, has joined Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C. McTiernan is now a corporate partner focused on advising real estate investment trusts on securities matters.
In Palo Alto, intellectual property litigator MICHAEL ZACHARY has returned to IP–focused Kenyon & Kenyon as a partner. He was last at the firm in 2002 as counsel, and most recently practiced at Seattle-based IP boutique Christensen O’Connor Johnson & Kindness.
MICHAEL CAMUNEZ has joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in its government and regulatory policy division as a partner, concentrating on Mexican and Latin American issues. Working from the firm’s Washington, D.C., Mexico City and Los Angeles offices, Camuñez will also be president of the firm’s international consulting subsidiary, ManattJones Global Strategies. He was most recently the assistant secretary of Commerce for market access and compliance in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
Paul Hastings has expanded in London with the hire of commercial real estate partner DAVID RYLAND. Last at SJ Berwin—which has since merged to form King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin—Ryland concentrates on U.K. and European property funds, property finance, hotel transactions and development.
Ropes & Gray has added ANDREW THOMASES from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. A partner in Skadden’s Silicon Valley office, Thomases focuses on patent litigation and trade secrets cases.
Sidley Austin has hired TIMOTHY SPANGLER, the former chair of Kaye Scholer’s investment funds group, in its Los Angeles office. Spangler is a partner in his new firm’s investment funds, advisers and derivatives practice, advising clients on investment vehicles, securities and regulatory issues.
GEOFFREY ETNIRE has moved from Nossaman to Venable’s recently opened San Francisco office. Etnire joins as of counsel, representing developers, landowners and investors in real estate matters such as acquisitions, leasing and property sales.
