Fabrice Tourre, the former Goldman Sachs trader who was found guilty in a jury trial on six counts of civil securities fraud in August, has decided not to appeal his case, several media outlets reported Tuesday.

“After careful consideration, I have decided not to pursue a lengthy appeal process which, if successful, would lead to a retrial,” Tourre said in a statement, as reported in The Wall Street Journal. “While my lawyers have advised me there are strong grounds to appeal, I prefer to move forward with my education and close this difficult chapter of my life. I look forward to finishing my Ph.D. in economics and to making meaningful contributions to my field.”
