BlackBerry Ltd. will acquire Germany’s Secusmart GmbH, a company known for its voice and data encryption as well as its anti-eavesdropping technology, in an effort to attract security conscious clients like government agencies, the company announced on Tuesday.

The acquisition marks BlackBerry’s most recent attempt to cement a specific role in the smartphone market, as the company tries to reinvent itself and reignite profits under its new chief executive officer John Chen, and to recover the business it lost to Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy devices, Reuters reports.
