Borden Ladner Gervais, a leading Canadian firm, announced Wednesday the opening of an office in Beijing. The firm, which specializes in business and IP law, cited China’s growing economic significance to Canada as the impetus for its new outpost.

BLG said in a statement that the increased business activity between the two countries in recent years made opening an office in China’s capital a logical next step in its expansion plans. The firm will not practice law locally, but instead focus on business development and growing its relationship with current Chinese clients.
