As the 2014-15 National Basketball Association season tips off this week, several Am Law 100 firms are getting in on some off-the-court legal action.
DLA Piper, Proskauer Rose and Sullivan & Cromwell have all recently nabbed key roles advising the league or its member franchises on transactional matters. DLA Piper has been retained by the owners of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks as they look to sell their franchise, Sullivan & Cromwell is advising the owner of the New York Knicks on a potential split of his company’s operations and Proskauer Rose its representing the league itself on a landmark deal in Brazil set to be announced Thursday. Public records also show the big money a handful of other large firms received for handling work on behalf of NBA players.
