Citing a decline in demand for litigation services, Goodwin Procter laid off 21 lawyers and 17 professional staff in its litigation department, the firm announced Wednesday. News of the layoffs was first reported by Above the Law.

Out of the 21 attorneys affected, 14 were associates and seven were professional- track attorneys, the latter category covering counsel, senior attorneys, department attorneys and discovery attorneys, a firm spokesman told The Am Law Daily. Prior to Wednesday’s announcement, Goodwin Procter had 177 litigation associates.
