Andrea Nicolas is hearing things. A corporate finance partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, she is deep into an intense drafting session at the Juno Beach, Florida, headquarters of NextEra Energy Inc., the largest generator of renewable energy in the United States. Her team is busy putting together a novel transaction to help NextEra spin off its vast renewable energy portfolio, when she becomes distracted by the muffled sounds of “pounding ’80s music.”
“At first I thought it was just me and that maybe I had drunk too much coffee, which was concerning,” she laughs. “Turns out there was a lunchtime employee aerobics class in the next room, so we all just looked at each other, laughed and kept going.”
