Verizon / AOL
Citing the target’s market success in digital content and advertising platforms, Verizon Communications Inc. said May 12 that it will buy AOL Inc. for $4.4 billion. AOL’s content brands include Huffington Post Media Group, TechCrunch, Engadget and MapQuest, in addition to the company’s long-standing dial-up service.
Verizon is being represented in the deal by a Weil, Gotshal & Manges team led by Frederick Green, cochair of the firm’s transactions practice. Other Weil lawyers on the deal include tax partner Marc Silberberg, executive compensation and benefits partner Paul Wessel, technology and IP transactions partner Jeffrey Osterman and cybersecurity and data privacy partner Randi Singer, all based in New York, along with counsel Lawrence Baer and Adé Heyliger and associates Adam Dilluvio, Mark Dundon, Sara Fiorillo, John Godfrey, Dena Haibi, Eoghan Keenan, Madeline Lewis, Colby McKenzie, Adrian Perry, Eric Schecter, Linda Shen and Yuefan Wang.
