Our biennial Litigation Department of the Year awards, the centerpiece of this issue, feature all-stars in five areas: general litigation, individual litigators, intellectual property, white collar/regulatory and product liability. Over a two-month period, scores of litigation teams from throughout The Am Law 200 met with us to discuss their track records and strategies, their biggest wins and losses, in an effort to convince us that they should triumph.

Another extraordinary group was also at work, of course: my all-star team. That includes reporters, editors, designers and others who carefully considered each of this year’s 108 entries, researched firms’ litigation work through public records and discussions with clients and opponents, arranged for interviews and photographs, judged the winners, and designed and wrote the package.
