A week after DOUGLAS MCWILLIAMS left Vinson & Elkins in Houston for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, the capital markets and M&A partner did an abrupt about-face and returned to the firm that he’s called home for the past 23 years.

The news of McWilliams’ initial decision to leave Vinson for Simpson Thacher, which opened a Houston office in early 2014, was first reported on Feb. 14 by longtime legal affairs writer and lawyer Mark Curriden of The Texas Lawbook, writing for FuelFix.com. Curriden, who previously spent eight years as senior communications counsel at Vinson, then reported on Feb. 18 that McWilliams had experienced a change of heart after returning to Houston from a ski trip in Utah.
