Some 200 prominent New Jersey citizens, including three former governors, two ex-state attorneys general and partners at Drinker Biddle & Reath and Duane Morris, are pushing to reopen a murder-suicide investigation involving former state official and top Garden State lawyer John Sheridan Jr.

The group, known as the “Friends of John & Joyce Sheridan,” released a letter on Feb. 17 that challenges findings unveiled last year by law enforcement officials in Somerset County, New Jersey, regarding the September 2014 deaths of Sheridan and his wife of 47 years, Joyce Sheridan. In March 2015, Somerset County prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano’s office issued a report that the Sheridans died in a murder-suicide perpetrated by John Sheridan, a former New Jersey transportation commissioner who once served as head of the lobbying practice at Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti, one of New Jersey’s largest firms.
