JOSHUA BERMAN, national co-head of Katten Muchin Rosenman’s white-collar, investigations and compliance practice in New York, has left the firm to become deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

Katten hired Berman in 2010 from Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, where he co-chaired the Dentons predecessor’s white-collar and government investigations group. He previously was a federal prosecutor in New York and senior trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was once a candidate to become the top federal prosecutor in Detroit. Berman’s name surfaced in 2011 as one of several potential nominees for a federal bench seat in Chicago.
