Facing a swirl of sex abuse litigation, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis saw a new archbishop take the helm last week. And he’s a former big-firm lawyer.
Bernard Hebda had been serving in an interim role in the Twin Cities since the former archbishop, John Nienstedt, stepped down in June 2015. The Minneapolis archdiocese filed for bankruptcy in January 2015 as part of an effort to freeze dozens of suits brought by alleged victims of clergy and laity sex abuse.
