The pace of law firm mergers in the first quarter of 2016 almost matched that of 2015, a record-breaking year for combinations, according to a report by the legal consultancy Altman Weil.

But the report’s author, Altman Weil principal Ward Bower, said the market for small and midsize law firms has been picked over, making it harder for Am Law 200 firms to find a shop to acquire.
