Sherwin-Williams / Valspar
The Sherwin-Williams Co. said March 20 that it will acquire The Valspar Corp. for $11.3 billion, including $2 billion in Valspar debt, in a bid to create a global paint behemoth.
Jones Day has taken the lead for Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams, with a deal team led by M&A partner James Dougherty in Cleveland and global M&A chair Robert Profusek in New York. Weil, Gotshal & Manges will advise on antitrust matters. Its team is led by Steven Newborn, head of the global antitrust and competition practice, and Laura Wilkinson. Catherine Kilbane is Sherwin-Williams’ general counsel. Dougherty and Profusek represented Sherwin-Williams three years ago in a $2.3 billion bid for Mexico’s Consorcio Comex, S.A. de C.V. that was blocked by Mexican antitrust regulators.
