The American Bar Association has dropped a debate over whether to allow outside investors to fund law firms, at least for now.
The ABA’s Commission on the Future of Legal Services had revived the issue in April with the publication of a paper that weighed the pros and cons of nonlawyer law firm ownership and called for ABA member input. Last week the commission passed on the opportunity to submit a formal proposal on the topic.
