London-based RedLaw launched a New York office this week, becoming perhaps only the second large U.K. legal recruitment firm to make the jump to the cutthroat U.S. lateral market.

The 15-person, London-based RedLaw, composed largely of former lawyers from U.S. or U.K. firms, will focus on associate and partner placement at large firms. Initially, RedLaw has hired Deborah Dempster, a U.S.-trained lawyer, as its first representative stateside. “The plan is to grow a team,” said RedLaw director Jonathan Benjamin, who co-founded the business in 2009.
