Products liability powerhouse Shook, Hardy & Bacon has elected partner Madeleine McDonough to succeed outgoing chairman John Murphy for a five-year term as chair of the firm starting January 1.
McDonough, who is presently chair of Shook Hardy’s pharmaceutical and medical device division in Kansas City, Missouri, and Washington, D.C., becomes the first female firmwide chairperson at Shook Hardy at a time when medical devices and health products aimed at women such as pelvic mesh are increasingly subjects of mass tort actions. She has represented many pharmaceutical clients including Bayer AG, GlaxoSmithKline plc and Pfizer Inc.
