The film studio behind “The Hunger Games” is hungry for a deal with four big firms in tow. Santa Monica, California-based Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. said that it would buy Englewood, Colorado-based pay television provider Starz Co. on Thursday for $4.4 billion in cash-and-stock.
The deal for Englewood, Colorado-based Starz, which was spun off from Liberty Media Corp. back in 2013 and has faced questions about its future ever since, is aimed at creating a combined entity with greater distribution and over-the-top content capabilities.
