Donald Trump doesn’t mind fishy characters in his condos. The Haitian strongman Baby Doc Duvalier bought into Trump Tower through a Panamanian shell company. At least two soccer bigwigs who are caught up in the FIFA bribery scandal—Chuck Blazer and Jose Maria Marin—have lived in Trump Tower. And that doesn’t count Chuck Blazer’s cats, who got their own apartment.
“Will I sell condos to Russians on occasion? Probably. I mean, I do that, ” Trump told ABC this summer. “ I have a lot of condos.” Co-ops appeal less because they attract a respectable crowd. In “The Art of the Deal,” Trump disdains co-ops for exposing buyers to “the scrutiny of a bunch of prying strangers.”
