Jenner & Block’s well-known appellate group has looked much like a question mark for the past few months—until that question was answered Monday.

Obama-era Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr., who was widely expected to return to the Jenner partnership last year, instead opened a Washington, D.C., office for Munger, Tolles & Olson in September. Then Paul Smith, Jenner’s Supreme Court practice head, announced after the New Year he would leave the firm for the nonprofit Campaign Legal Center.
