Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodgeand Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorrhave brokered the largest overseas acquisition by a Japanese pharmaceutical company. Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, based in Osaka, agreed to pay $8.8 billion to acquire Cambridge, Mass.�based Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., on Thursday.
Takeda’s legal team was led by Edwards Angell partners David Conlin, Bruce Raphael, Leonard Slap, Matthew Gardella, Albert Sokol, Eugene McDermott, Jr., Karl Fryzel, G. Scott Nebergall, and Benjamin Ferrucci. The firm has represented the company on several corporate and litigation matters in recent years, including Takeda’s 2005�06 patent infringement suit against generic drugmakers that challenged the Japenese company’s patent on a popular diabetes medicine. Takeda prevailed on that matter.
