Movie rental chain Blockbuster has retained Sullivan & Cromwell M&A partner Joseph Frumkin and corporate partner Robert Downes in its $1.3 billion takeover bid for Circuity City Stores. Frumkin, based in New York, focuses on U.S. and cross-border mergers and acquisitions and general corporate representation; he was an American Lawyer Dealmaker of the Year in 2004.

Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz is advising Richmond-based Circuit City. On the deal: antitrust partner Ilene Knable Gotts, corporate partners Andrew Brownstein and James Cole, Jr., restructuring partners Richard Mason and Eric Rosof, and tax partner T. Eiko Stange.
