Bingham Boosts London Office With Hire of Former Sidley Finance PartnerBingham McCutchen has made its second partner hire in London this year with the recruitment of Sarah Smith for its U.K. finance practice. Smith, the former co-head of Sidley Austin's international finance group, will join Bingham at the beginning of 2010 after leaving Sidley in February. She has experience in securitization and structured finance and will focus on general finance and restructuring matters, working alongside office head James Roome and London finance head Barry Russell.

U.K. Elite Hold On to Equity as Salaried Partner Ranks GrowThe U.K.'s top law firms have tightened their grip on the purse strings, increasing equity partner count by less than 4 percent despite a double digit increase in overall partner numbers over the last five years. Legal Week research into partner headcount changes at the U.K.'s largest 25 firms by revenue shows that, on average, partner count grew by 16 percent from 2003-04 to 2008-09. There was only a 3.7 percent increase in equity partner numbers during the same period.
