AP - Environmentalists asked a federal judge Thursday to decide whether the Navy must halt plans to build a $100 million offshore training range because of potential threats to endangered right whales.The Navy wants to install an undersea array of cables and sensors for training warships, submarines and aircraft about 50 miles off the Atlantic coast of southern Georgia and northern Florida.

OSHA to fine Imperial Sugar $8.7M in deadly blast

Judge Dies After Beating; Suspect to Be Charged With Murder

A 74-year-old judge died July 9 from head injuries he suffered during a severe beating two weeks ago at his law office in Georgia. Glenn Thomas Jr. was a Recorders Court judge and attorney who served 30 years as district attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. Authorities say murder charges will be filed against Bobby Rex Stribling. Stribling was released from prison in 2004 after serving eight years for burglary, theft and other charges prosecuted by Thomas' office during his last year as DA.

Some of those on Georgia prosecutor Kelly Burke's list of 62 criminals have served jail time. Many have not. But he proudly puts them all under one heading: "BANNED." Legalized exile is largely considered an anachronism, a pseudo-solution that merely makes one jurisdiction's convict somebody else's problem. Still, banishment persists in Georgia and Kentucky and possibly other states -- legal scholars don't keep track.
