AVLF attorney Tamara Serwer Caldas says its clients are frequently targeted by high-cost, short-term loan products that bury them in financial trouble. Because of the volunteers, "these families will receive their full refund without being preyed upon by tax refund businesses that skim hundreds of dollars of the refund off the top," says Caldas.
