Building a Robust Emergency Response Plan

As Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Ethics Officer, Sloane Perras leads Foss Maritime’s Legal and Risk Management Group where she provides legal counsel, advises on business strategies and best practices, and directs ethics and compliance programs.

Prior to joining Foss, Perras served as Chief Administrative and Legal Officer for two privately held retail brands. In her roles at both companies, Perras regularly reviewed enterprise risk strategies, financial controls and flows of revenue. She managed the risk management functions and provided enterprise strategy for innovation, regulatory compliance and HR risk mitigation. In addition, Perras worked closely with the leadership teams on corporate governance, including cyber and privacy issues.

Perras early career was with companies involved in the global supply chain. As an in-house lawyer, she was the Vice President, Assistant General Counsel & Assistant Corporate Secretary of Americold Logistics, LLC and corporate counsel of Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. (“EXPD”). Throughout her supply chain background, she has addressed significant regulatory and compliance matters, especially around global enforcement protocol.

Perras has a degree in Finance from University of Florida and earned her law degree, Cum Laude, from University of Georgia School of Law.

Katherine H. Bennett is an award-winning board adviser, executive leader, and corporate generalist. In 2020, Katie was named General Counsel of FlexiVan, one of the largest chassis providers in North America with a fleet of ~125,000 units powered by best-in-class technology.

This year, FlexiVan merged with industry powerhouse American Intermodal Management (AIM). Katie embodies FlexiVan’s core values of integrity, commitment, and innovation. She brings a wealth of cross-functional and cross-industry experience to FlexiVan’s senior leadership team. Over nearly 15 years, she has worked with companies of all sizes—from Fortune 500 multinationals like Google, Expedia, and Cisco, to start-ups.

She’s also worked across sectors—from heavily regulated industries like financial services and healthcare, to tech companies exploring next generation problems, to traditional businesses in established sectors like real estate and transportation.

Lisa Shuchman is Executive Editor of Law.com International, overseeing the global content for ALM. She previously was senior international editor and before that, a senior reporter at Corporate Counsel.

Prior to joining ALM, Lisa worked in Japan for The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, and in the U.S. for the Associated Press, The Industry Standard, and regional newspapers

Monica serves on the global board of the Association of Corporate Counsel, a 45,000-member organization that fosters excellence among in-house practitioners. Her expertise includes holistic, enterprise-wide risk management and emergency response. In roles that include Vice President and General Counsel of the Space division of Lockheed Martin and Vice President of Corporate Responsibility of ITT Defense & Information Solutions, Monica developed expertise that includes classified data handling and cyber resilience and security. As a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Monica handled complex litigation, including restraining orders and other emergency legal measures.

Monica supports Water Drop, a non-profit borne of the current pandemic that provides clean drinking water to homeless in the Los Angeles area.
