Description

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn strategies for writing more efficiently and effectively, including how to organize memos clearly and provide useful roadmaps. We will cover techniques for quickly eliminating common writing weaknesses, including lack of organization, weak paragraph structure and convoluted sentences. You will learn strategies for drafting:
• effective introductions
• powerful headings
• concise, clear sentences

This workshop is geared toward junior attorneys but provides a useful review for attorneys at all levels.

Dianne Rosky


Rosky Legal Education

Dianne Rosky is a consultant to leading law firms and corporations. Dianne and her associates have led hundreds of group and individual training sessions at major law firms in the United States, Europe and Asia, including 10 of the top 25 firms in American Lawyer’s Am Law 100. Dianne brings a warm, accessible approach to her teaching. She is passionate about teaching lawyers to express themselves clearly and confidently. Before founding Rosky Legal Education in 2003, Dianne taught legal writing and other lawyering skills in the Lawyering Program at NYU School of Law. Dianne is now an Adjunct Professor at NYU School of Law, where she teaches Legal English and U.S. Law to international LL.M. students. Dianne has practiced commercial litigation at two leading New York firms: Sullivan & Cromwell and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. At Sullivan & Cromwell, she was selected as the firm’s Pro Bono Fellow to litigate prisoners’ federal civil rights actions. Dianne is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was an Editor of the Harvard Law Review. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert W. Sweet of the Southern District of New York. Before law school, Dianne spent a year in Thailand studying women’s handicrafts as a Thomas J. Watson fellow. She has also spent several years traveling and working in France, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. Dianne has long been enamored with words and language. Before law school, she was an Editorial Assistant at Merriam-Webster, selecting and defining new dictionary entries.

Mary Campbell Gallagher, J.D., Ph.D.


Mary Campbell Gallagher, J.D., Ph.D., is an authority on efficient writing in law and business, and on the bar examination. She holds the J.D. from Harvard and the Ph.D. in linguistic theory from the University of Illinois. She is the author of the book, Write Fast Legal Memos "Like a SportTM." A widely published professional writer whose work has appeared in The Nation and The Weekly Standard, she is also the author of the book and CDs, Scoring High on Bar Exam Essays and of the book Perform Your Best on the Bar Exam Performance Test (MPT): Train to Finish the MPT in 90 Minutes “Like a SportTM.” She is president of BarWrite? and BarWrite Press, which offer courses and coaching for lawyers and business people on efficient writing, as well as courses and coaching for the bar examination. She lectures nationwide. Dr. Gallagher is an active professional member of the National Speakers Association New York City Chapter, on whose board she served for nine years, and which awarded her its highest honor. In 2014 she received the Global Legal Skills Award for her work assisting LLMs and foreign-trained lawyers with the bar exam. She serves on the Committee on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar of the New York State Bar Association. A recent article is “Alternatives for Scheduling the Bar Exam,” with Professor Carol A.
