Intersection of Divorce and Bankruptcy

Hon. Bridget E. Robb is a Judge in the Nevada Second Judicial District Court in Reno and has been the Presiding Judge of the Family Division for most of the last five years. She began her private practice as an associate with a large Nevada firm, then in 1988 moved to Gordon & Silver, Ltd., becoming a shareholder in 1993. In 1995, she left to form the firm of Beesley & Peck, Ltd. and served as managing shareholder of the Beesley, Peck & Matteoni law firm from 1999-2006. On April 18, 2006, Gov. Kenny C. Guinn appointed Judge Robb to the Second Judicial District Court. She returned to private practice with Lewis & Roca in 2007, returning to the bench on Jan. 1, 2009.

During her career, Judge Robb has worked to improve the legal profession and to protect clients and to foster the administration of justice in Nevada. She has volunteered her time and services to provide legal assistance to people with low incomes, to help victims of domestic violence and to work with both elementary and high school students regarding the Constitution and in competition classes such as Mock Trial and We the People.

Judge Robb received her B.A. in English from the University of Nevada in 1984 and her J.D. cum laude from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1987.

Jody A. Corrales is a shareholder in the Tucson, Ariz., office of DeConcini McDonald Yetwin & Lacy, P.C. where she focuses her practice on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights. She has extensive experience in bankruptcy law and has been appointed to serve as a subchapter V panel trustee for the District of Arizona.

Ms. Corrales is Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification and is certified as a Bankruptcy Specialist by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization. She was named to the 2020 Class of ABI’s “40 Under 40” and has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in the Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law category of Southwest Super Lawyers since 2013, when she was nominated to participate in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) Next Generation Program. She currently serves on the Ninth Circuit Conference Executive Committee following a stint as co-chair of the Arizona delegation of Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representatives.

Ms. Corrales devotes considerable time to pro bono endeavors, frequently assisting self-represented litigants in bankruptcy court and federal district court. In 2014, she was awarded the inaugural Hon. Eileen W. Hollowell Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona.

Ms. Corrales received her J.D. from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.

Hon. Trish M. Brown is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Oregon in Portland, appointed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Dec. 3, 1999, and reappointed on Dec. 3, 2014. She previously was a shareholder with Farleigh, Wada & Witt, P.C. and a partner with Lane, Powell, Spears, Lubersky LLP.

While in private practice, Judge Brown focused on bankruptcy and corporate reorganization, representing primarily creditors in all types of bankruptcies, defending preference and other avoidance actions and pursuing nondischargeable debts for creditors; loan workouts and foreclosures; and real estate transactions, and she also acted as a mediator and arbitrator in all aspects of debtor/creditor, real estate and contract disputes. She is licensed to practice in Oregon, Washington and Virginia, and is Board Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification.

Judge Brown served as treasurer of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges from 2017-19 and is a member of the Oregon State Bar. She also has served as a Pro Bono Clinic speaker since 1997 and has given CARE (Credit Abuse Resistance Education) presentations. In addition, she has been an editor and author of Oregon State Bar CLE on Bankruptcy (1989) and Supplements (1992 and 1995).

Judge Brown received her B.S. in 1978 from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and her J.D. cum laude in 1981 from Washington and Lee University School of Law.

For almost 40 years, Randy Nussbaum has assisted individuals and businesses with complex bankruptcy protection (debtor and creditor), transaction, and litigation matters. He especially enjoys helping his clients achieve their business and financial objectives using innovative legal strategies.

Randy is a Certified Bankruptcy Specialist (Arizona Board of Legal Specialization) and a Certified Business Bankruptcy Specialist (American Board of Certification). His peers have honored him with multiple peer rankings for his professional, civic and charitable achievements. Randy has been named to Super Lawyers’ “Top 50 Arizona” list of attorneys multiple times and has been selected by The Best Lawyers in America? every year since 2010. Best Lawyers also selected Randy as its 2019 “Lawyer of the Year” (Scottsdale) in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights.

Randy has represented secured and unsecured creditors, surety companies, creditor committees, lessors, professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, and trustees in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 proceedings, including adversary actions (bankruptcy litigation). The cases have involved such diverse matters as real estate, construction, manufacturing, trucking, asset-based lending, bankruptcy related to divorce, and high-value, complex individual bankruptcies.

Committed to community service, Randy is a 1990 graduate of Scottsdale Leadership. He has volunteered for that organization for more than 28 years, serves on its Advisory Board, and is a recipient of the prestigious Frank W. Hodges Alumni Achievement Award. Randy serves on the advisory boards for the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Historical Society, and Scottsdale Community College. He served as a Sterling Awards Jurist, Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce, and received the Chamber’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award. Recognized for his life-long commitment to community service, in 2018 Randy joined the distinguished roster of honorees inducted into the Scottsdale History Hall of Fame.
