  • AI and Substantive Law

For NY - Difficulty Level: Both newly admitted and experienced attorneys

Description

AI is featured front and center in courtrooms and firms around the globe, playing the starring role in many substantive legal issues and cases whose outcomes will have a significant impact on how law is practiced and how justice is administered. The limitations of AI such as bias, hallucinations and lack of transparency are often elevated as paramount concerns. But not to worry! Humans still have a role to play, especially in light of some of the ethical issues like antitrust collusion, defamation and liability coming to the forefront as a result of active litigation and legislative efforts.

With a focus on how AI relates to Comment 8, Model Rule 1.1 of the ABA's Model Professional Rules of Conduct, the program will address how understanding technology is no longer optional, but rather a "...requisite knowledge and skill" to the practice of law. The program will help attorneys stay current on and evaluate "...the benefits and risks associated with relevant technology" while applying it to real-world legal practice. , engage in continuing study and education and comply with all continuing legal education requirements to which the lawyer is subject.
