GC Appointments
Elyria, Ohio-based Invacare Corp., a home and long-term medical care products manufacturer, has named Anthony LaPlaca senior vice president and general counsel. He replaces Dale LaPorte, who retired Dec. 31. LaPlaca previously worked at Elyria-based Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems as vice president and general counsel.
Paul Wilson has been named executive vice president, general counsel & secretary of First Wind Holdings, a wind power company based in Boston. Previously he was a senior corporate partner at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
Jackson Healthcare in Alpharetta, Ga., has named Dennis Stockwell general counsel. Previously, Stockwell was general counsel at Atlanta-based TurboChef Technologies Inc.
Reston, Va.-based TerreStar Corp., a mobile broadband network for homeland defense, has named Douglas Brandon general counsel, secretary and senior vice president. Previously he was associate general counsel at AT&T Wireless Services Inc.
Mike Kolar has been named vice president, general counsel and secretary of Minneapolis-based Virtual Radiologic Corp., a teleradiology company. He replaces George Frisch, who is retiring. Previously Kolar was a partner at Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly.
Cathryn Porter has been named general counsel of Houston-based Cornell Companies Inc., a private corrections company. Previously she was of counsel at Thompson & Knight in Houston.
The World Bank has named French lawyer Anne-Marie Leroy senior vice president and general counsel. Previously she was a partner at Denton Wilde Sapte in Paris.
John Torres has been named chief legal officer of Lennox International Inc., a climate control company based in Richardson, Texas. Most recently he was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Freescale Semiconductor.
Florence DiBendetto has been named senior vice president and general counsel of Sutter Health in Sacramento, Calif. She replaces Gary Loveridge, who is retiring. Previously she was a senior partner at Sacramento-based Hunter Richey DiBenedetto & Eisenbeis.
Memphis, Tenn.-based Pinnacle Airlines has named Brian Hunt vice president and general counsel. Previously Hunt worked at ATA Airlines as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
US Investigations Services Inc., a Falls Church, Va.-based security and information provider, has appointed David Fontaine senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Previously he served as executive vice president, general counsel, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary for Washington, D.C.-based Ruesch International Inc.
Richard Erstad has been named the first general counsel for Hawkins Inc., a Minneapolis-based provider of bulk industrial products. Previously he was general counsel and secretary for Minneapolis-based BUCA Inc., which owns the national Buca di Beppo restaurant chain.
Thomas Kivell has been named vice president and general counsel of Charlotte, Mich.-based automotive engineering company Spartan Motors Inc. He was previously general counsel for the digital systems unit of GE Aviation, based in Evendale, Ohio.
Fargo, N.D.-based Ulteig Engineers Inc. has named Brad Swenson executive vice president. He also serves as the company's general counsel and corporate secretary.
The Federal Bar Association, based in Arlington, Va., has named D. Michael McBride III general counsel to its board of directors. He is also a partner at Crowe & Dunlevy in Tulsa, Okla.
Edinburg, Va.-based Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. has named Ann E. Flowers general counsel and legal vice president. Previously she was of counsel at the Washington, D.C., office of Davis Wright Tremaine.
Denver-based Geovic Mining Corp. has named Alan Peryam vice president and general counsel. He previously was outside counsel for the company.

William Blumenthal, the former general counsel of the Federal Trade Commission, has joined the New York office of Clifford Chance as a partner in mergers & acquisitions and litigation & dispute resolution practices.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
