GC Appointments
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., based in Bentonville, Ark., has promoted Jeff Gearhart to executive vice president and general counsel. Previously he was senior vice president and deputy general counsel. Gearhart replaces Tom Mars, who has been promoted to chief administrative officer and executive vice president.
American Apparel Inc., a Los Angeles-based clothing retailer, has named Glenn Weinman as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. He replaces Joyce Crucillo, who will become the company's chief litigation counsel. Previously Weinman was a partner at Dongell Lawrence Finney in California.
Plano, Texas-based JCPenney has named Janet Dhillon executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Previously she served as the senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of US Airways.
Seattle-based Laird Norton Tyee, a wealth management firm, has hired Robert Hille as general counsel and chief compliance officer. Previously he was chief compliance officer at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based GenSpring Family Offices.
Vertis Communications, a Baltimore-based retail advertising company, has promoted David Glogoff to chief legal officer. Previously he was the company's vice president and deputy general counsel.
Incline Village, Nev.-based drug maker PDL BioPharma has named Christopher Stone as vice president, general counsel and secretary. Previously he was vice president of legal affairs and corporate secretary of LS9, based in South San Francisco, Calif.
President Obama has nominated Ivan Fong, the chief legal officer and secretary of Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health, to be general counsel of the Department of Homeland Security.
David Becker, a Washington, D.C., partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, has been named the general counsel and senior policy director of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He also served as the SEC's general counsel from 2000 to 2002.
Goodrich Petroleum, an oil and gas company based in Houston, has named Michael Killelea senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Most recently he was senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Pogo Producing Co.
Germany-based Siemens has named Richard Brait general counsel for its Canadian division. Brait previously worked as a partner at Stikeman Elliott.
The Dannon Co. Inc., a yogurt manufacturer based in White Plains, N.Y., has named Ken Strick vice president of legal affairs and general counsel. Previously he was the vice president and general counsel at the American subsidiaries of Royal Numico NV.

Broadwind Energy Inc., a Naperville, Ill.-based provider of components, logistics and services to the wind power and broader energy markets, has named David W. Fell associate general counsel.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
