GC Appointments
DreamWorks Animation SKG appointed Andrew Chang general counsel. Previously he served as the Glendale, Calif.-based company's head of litigation and technology law.
Intel Corp. named A. Douglas Melamed general counsel. Previously he was a
partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Door.
Omaha-based Green Plains Renewable Energy named Michelle Mapes executive vice president – general counsel and corporate secretary. Previously she was Green Plain's primary outside counsel while a partner at Husch Blackwell Sanders.
Kyla Mullins was appointed general counsel of London-based EMI Music. Previously she was group legal director and a member of the executive committee at ITV.
Cornerstone Therapeutics Inc., a Cary, N.C.-based respiratory pharmaceutical company, named Andrew Powell executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Previously he served as senior vice president, general counsel, secretary at ImClone Systems Inc.
Public Company Management Corp., a Las Vegas-based consulting firm, named Trae O'Neil High chief legal officer. Previously he served as outside securities counsel for a number of companies.
Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., appointed Jamie Brooksher general counsel. She previously worked for the university as associate general counsel and director of equal opportunity and affirmative action. She succeeds Darron Farha, who was named vice president and university counsel at Valparaiso University.
Julie Finch was named general counsel at claims processor HSG|CodeBlue. Prior to assuming her new role with the Eau Claire, Wis.-based company, Finch worked with it in various contract capacities.
Esquire Solutions, an Atlanta-based provider of litigation support services, named Domenick DiCicco executive vice president and general counsel. Prior to joining the company, DiCicco served as senior vice president, chief legal officer for an insurance corporation.
Kidney care services-provider DaVita, based in Lakewood, Colo., named Kim Rivera general counsel and secretary. She previously served as vice president and associate general counsel for The Clorox Co.
Peter Loewy was named general counsel for real estate agency Teles Properties. Prior to joining the Beverly Hills-based agency he served as senior counsel at the law firm Fragomen Del Rey Bernsen and Loewy.
Chilton Investment Co., based in Stamford, Conn., appointed Jim Steinthal general counsel. He previously served as the company's managing director and general counsel for various hedge funds.
Partners in Planning Financial Services named Stephanie McManus general counsel and chief compliance officer. Prior to joining the Canadian mutual fund dealer, she served as enforcement counsel with the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
PNM Resources Inc., an Albuquerque-based electric power company, named Patrick Apodaca senior vice president and general counsel. Previously he served as university counsel at the University of New Mexico.

Investment research firm Value Line Inc. named Howard Brecher its acting chairman and CEO. Previously he was the New York-based company's chief legal officer.
Susan Comparato was appointed chief executive officer and president of Syncora Holdings. Previously she served as the Bermuda-based financial insurance provider's general counsel for interaction with regulatory institutions.
Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health named Kevin Lawlor associate general counsel. Previously he served as senior vice president and general counsel for Vail Valley Medical Center.
Law firm news
Dennis Doise joined Jones Walker as special counsel in the firm's Lafayette, La., office. Previously he served as general counsel of River Ranch Development.
Awards
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill established an annual media law colloquium honoring Wade Hargrove. Hargrove, a partner at Brooks Pierce, has also been general counsel of the North Carolina Cable Telecommunications Association for 30 years.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
