BOSTON — The daily-deal industry in the Boston area has become so crowded in such a short period of time, two of the companies are already facing off in Boston federal court.

But this showdown isn't surprising, given the names of the two firms involved: Waltham-based startup Wow What Savings LLC has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Internet giant America Online Inc., which launched wow.com in November.

Wow What Savings initially sued AOL in Middlesex Superior Court on Dec. 30, but the case was quickly transferred to Boston federal court at AOL's request.
