Kaplan Higher Education (KHE) received three awards last month from First Chair, a legal organization that brings together in-house lawyers and law firm attorneys.

First Chair selects annual recipients for its awards based on in-house attorneys who demonstrate significant dedication and innovation to their communities. The program awards top in-house counsel for their achievements in the past year through a variety of fields.

Janice Block and Lisa Seilheimer, two of Kaplan's in-house counsel, received the Top General Counsel and the Rising Star awards, respectively. The legal team as a whole was awarded with a Top In-House Legal Department honor.

Block, executive vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of KHE, graduated from Princeton University, received her master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and attended Columbia University School of Law. At KHE, Block formed and currently manages the Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Department.

“We are so fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated group of people in our Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Department,” Block said in response to the awards. “This group passionately believes in the importance of teamwork, client service and partnership with others to achieve results. It's great to have that validated by such a well-recognized organization as First Chair.”

Seilheimer, another of KHE's award winners, graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and attended George Washington University School of Law. She is the senior litigation counsel for Kaplan and specializes in labor and employment.
