Not even a week after becoming owner of the National Football League's Jacksonville Jaguars franchise, Shahid Khan is making changes both behind the scenes on the sidelines.

The team's new owner announced that he has promoted Sashi Brown, previously senior vice president, digital media, and assistant general counsel, to the big chair following the departure of Paul Vance, the franchise's longtime senior vice president, football operations, and general counsel.

Brown, 35, has been with the Jaguars since 2005 and is credited with helping lead the team, along with Vance, out of salary cap problems in which it languished in the early 2000s. In 2011, he was promoted to assistant GC and senior vice president.

“Sashi will report directly to me and I am counting on him to play a significant role in this new beginning for the Jacksonville Jaguars,” Khan said in a release.

Prior to joining the Jaguars, Brown was a member of Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr's corporate law practice.

Vance, who had been GC to the team since its inception, will remain a consultant to the organization. He was put in charge of football operations in 2001, and was responsible for the Jaguars' player budget, salary cap strategy and contract negotiations. He also managed the team's training and medical functions, video and equipment departments, and travel and logistics.

“Sashi is extremely careful and dedicated to what he does and has exhibited very good judgment,” Vance said of his now-replacement in years past. “He has been thrown into a lot of situations and has done a good job. From an early point of his time here, he has gained the trust of not only myself, but most of the staff here.”

Closer to the field, the team also announced yesterday that it named Mike Mularkey its new head coach.
