GC Appointments

The American Cancer Society (ACS) appointed Timothy Phillips general counsel and chief legal executive. Phillips joined the ACS in 2005 and has served as both senior counsel and interim general counsel. He previously was a special tax counsel in the Atlanta office of Troutman Sanders, where he advised the firm's nonprofit business clients in the faith-based, education, health care and science sectors.


Timothy Lynch will assume the role of vice president and general counsel of the University of Michigan, effective Jan. 7, 2013. Lynch comes to the university from the U.S. Department of Energy, where he served as deputy general counsel for litigation and enforcement and as the acting general counsel between December 2011 and April 2012. His prior work experience also includes stints at the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.

Global water technology company Xylem Inc. hired Christian Na as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Na comes to the company after two years at CIRCOR International Inc., where he served as deputy general counsel. He has also served as general counsel in the product identification division of Danaher Corp. and the U.S. subsidiary of Mitel Networks Corp.
