Panasonic Corp. of North America, the Newark, New Jersey-based subsidiary of Japanese digital and electronic products giant Panasonic Corp., announced this week that it is putting a new lawyer in charge. Joining Panasonic from the law department at AOL Inc., Damien Atkins brings years of in-house experience to the role of general counsel and corporate secretary.

Atkins has big shoes to fill. He replaces Robert Marin, who will retire after working at Panasonic North America for almost 40 years, including 23 as general counsel. Talking to Atkins, who will start work next week, it’s clear he feels up to the challenge. He told CorpCounsel.com that the opportunity to come to Panasonic was too good to pass up, providing an opportunity to work with a company that specializes in “best in class” technology solutions. “I have an open mind, and it’s a new opportunity and a new adventure,” Atkins said.
