It's a holiday promotion for RCS Capital Corp.'s Mason Allen. He's been appointed general counsel, succeeding James Tanaka. Previously, Allen served as the company's assistant general counsel. He takes on the new role immediately.

Allen joined the full-service investment firm in 2013 from Proskauer Rose, where he practiced in the area of capital markets and finance. At the firm, he represented domestic and foreign private issuers, initial purchasers, underwriters, dealer managers and placement agents. He regularly advised clients on settlement, trade and securities law compliance as well as general corporate law and corporate governance. Previously, Allen was at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, where he represented investment banks, mezzanine funds and private corporations in finance transactions.

RCS' new general counsel holds a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a law degree from Brooklyn Law School.
