Sometimes the best general counsel hire is the one made years ago. Former Google Ventures CEO Bill Maris, has brought his old colleague, Google Ventures GC Jennifer Kercher, over to his new California-based venture capital firm, Section 32, as its new general counsel and chief operating officer.

The move was first reported Thursday by news site Axios. A Section 32 spokesperson declined an interview with Kercher for this story, citing Kercher's busy schedule.

Section 32 closed its first fundraising round in May, collecting $150 million from undisclosed investors. At the time of the round's closing, Maris told TechCrunch that he had no industry-specific investment plans for Section 32's first fund. Although it was previously reported that Section 32 would focus on health care, Maris said that “biotech and health care have gotten to be a bit too trendy of a space lately, and I am leaning back a bit while that trend plays out.”
