Velcro Companies has hired a new general counsel, the company announced Friday.

Anne Taubes Warner steps into the role this month at the U.K.-based company, known for its loop and hook fasteners.

“I am very pleased to welcome Anne to Velcro Companies,” said CEO and President Fraser Cameron in a press release. “Anne is a seasoned in-house lawyer with broad public and private company experience, and she brings expertise in compliance, corporate governance, complex contract and licensing agreements. I look forward to her contributions as Velcro Companies continues its growth around the globe.”

As the top lawyer at the global company, Warner will help the legal department protect its more than 400 active patents and numerous trademarks, including the VELCRO trademark.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve such an excellent company with a worldwide brand,” Warner said Friday in a LinkedIn message. “I am also excited to be joining a forward-looking and energetic executive team, and look forward to working with them towards Velcro's continued growth and success.”

Most recently, Warner served as general counsel and chief compliance officer for computer software company Pegasystems in Cambridge, Massachusetts. According to her LinkedIn profile, she left the position in last October.

While there, she oversaw a global legal department and worked on corporate and employment law, as well as deal negotiations, according to the Velcro Companies press release.

Before Pegasystems, Warner worked in-house for Alexion Pharmaceuticals and Iverness Medical Innovations.

Warner is a U.S. Hall of Fame coach and athlete in the sport of rowing, according to the company announcement. She earned a bronze medal for rowing with the U.S. Olympic Team in Montreal in 1976.
