Quality Systems Inc., arguably best known for its brand NextGen Healthcare, has a new top lawyer. The health IT software company has named Jeffrey Linton executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective Monday.

Linton, who most recently served as GC at Applied Proteomics Inc., headquartered in San Diego, succeeds Jocelyn Leavitt, who has been GC since June 2013. A NextGen Healthcare spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for additional information about Leavitt's departure. Irvine, California-based Quality Systems develops health IT software for medical and dental clients.

Linton will report to NextGen Healthcare president and CEO Rusty Frantz and lead the company's legal affairs, regulatory and compliance groups, according to a company statement.

“Jeff has an impressive legal career within complex health care landscapes. His expertise will continue to strengthen our NextGen Healthcare leadership team as we continue to evolve our portfolio of solutions within the health care information technology ecosystem,” Frantz said in the statement.

Prior to joining Applied Proteomics in November 2016, Linton had a host of in-house positions with various life sciences and biomedical companies, including: Sequenom; Beckman Coulter Inc.; Serologicals Corp. and Eli Lilly and Co.

He holds degrees from Butler University and the University of Notre Dame Law School.
