Digital health care company Sharecare Inc. has hired a long-time in-house attorney at McKesson Corp. as its new chief legal officer.

The Atlanta-based online health and wellness platform announced Wednesday that it has named Ami Patel as the company's chief legal and compliance officer.

“We are excited to have Ami join our management team, as she brings a valuable set of legal experience and leadership skills that will be an asset to us as we expand and advance our offerings with health plans, employers, providers and most importantly, our users,” Sharecare president Justin Ferrero said in a statement.

Co-founded by Jeffrey Arnold and Dr. Mehmet Oz, cardiothoracic surgeon and host of “The Dr. Oz Show,” Sharecare provides consumers with personalized health information and connects them with programs and health and wellness resources.

For the past 16 years, Patel has served as assistant general counsel for McKesson's corporate IT and technology interests, advising the company's chief information/technology and chief information security officers. She also played a major role in McKesson's largest acquisition—Celesio AG—and served as special legal adviser to that division's CIO and European IT leadership team, according to Sharecare's statement.

Prior to joining McKesson, Patel was general counsel and vice president at the Sterling Hotel Management Group in St. Augustine, Florida, and an attorney in the Atlanta office of King & Spalding. Patel also served as a law clerk to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stacey Cotton of the Northern District of Georgia.

Patel holds degrees from the University of Miami and the Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida, according to her LinkedIn profile. She is relocating from San Francisco to Sharecare's headquarters in Atlanta.
