Jill Marchant has been named the new general counsel for Hallmark Cards Inc.

Marchant steps into the role Jan. 16, replacing Brian Gardner who is retiring from the Kansas City, Missouri-based greeting card company. Gardner is staying with Hallmark through the end of March.

“I have long admired Hallmark as a trusted company and an unparalleled brand,” Marchant said in a press release Wednesday. “I believe the opportunities for Hallmark's businesses have never been greater, and I look forward to joining the company to do my part in helping to fulfill the vision of making a genuine difference in every life, every day.”

Marchant, who was not immediately available for comment, most recently served as GC for Louisville, Kentucky-based Farm Credit Mid-America Inc., where she led the legal team since 2014.

Prior to Farm Credit, she served as general counsel for restaurant company Texas Roadhouse.

She has also held in-house roles at DineEquity Inc., Applebee's International Inc. and Honeywell International Inc. Before moving in-house, Marchant worked as an associate with Morrison & Foerster.

“Jill brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role, which will serve Hallmark well as we continue to drive our overall performance and focus on the success of our portfolio of businesses,” said Dave Hall, president of Hallmark, in a press release. “I look forward to Jill applying her great skills and experiences to lead Hallmark's strong legal team.”
