Five years ago, when Elizabeth “Boo” Baker joined Twitch Interactive Inc. as the company's first general counsel, the video game streaming company was a start-up with no established legal department.

Now, Twitch's site is one of the largest sources of peak U.S. Internet traffic. It's no longer solely dedicated to video games, with streamers creating paintings or chatting about daily life. In 2014, the company was acquired by Amazon for roughly $970 million.

Baker, a UC-Berkeley Law grad who started her career with stints at Latham & Watkins and Perkins Coie, led the legal department through the changes that came with Twitch's growth and the acquisition. She was also GC during the launch of the company's first TwitchCon in 2015, a convention for streamers and fans that's since become an annual tradition.

Law.com's Corporate Counsel sat down with Baker to learn about her day-to-day, what she looks for in outside counsel and how she climbed the in-house ladder.
